New Material – D3O __Week 1

D3O infoD3O is a unique polymer composite that is a chemically engineered dilatant non-Newtonian fluid. It is currently used for impact protection and is an energy absorber.

It is soft and flexible and putty like. It can be as thin as 8mm. In it’s raw state it flows freely but on shock it locks together to absorb and disperse energy. Although it immediately returns to its previous state within 1/100 of a second.

It was developed by Richard Palmer and other specialists, completed in 2005. A material that has potential in various parts of the building industry.
