These are threads of microscopic yet highly conductive carbon fibres, coated in plastic. These electrode are so small that they are about 7 micrometers wide and can be placed next to individual neurons to respond to them. They are currently still in testing but plans have been made to incorporate them into the natural response of prosthetic limbs from the brain.
I believe they can be used in the building industry for the comfort of the users. These electrodes have the possibility of closing the gap between human response to the environment inside a building and the physical reactions the building can do. A simple touch or the feel of a person against any building material could trigger the response in the windows, doors, lights and much more.
